Following an investigation by the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) into the funeral sector, a number of concerns were identified. This led to the introduction of the Funerals Market Investigation Order 2021, which legally requires all funeral directors in the UK to:

• Make a Standardised Price List (SPL) available online, accessible within one click of the homepage;
• Display the SPL clearly and prominently within their premises and, where possible, in branch windows;
• Publish crematorium fee information, payment terms, and required disclosures both online and in branch;
• Keep an up-to-date register of charitable donations.

The purpose of these requirements is to give families greater transparency and make it simpler to compare funeral services and costs between providers.
